Tips for Accurate Cut Length Calculation
Always Include Kerf
Each cut removes blade-width material. Forgetting kerf leads to parts that don't fit. Enter your saw's actual kerf width.
Sort Parts Longest-First
Cutting longest parts first from each stock minimizes unusable offcuts. The calculator auto-sorts for you.
Measure Actual Stock
Nominal 6m bars may be 5980mm. Enter the minimum guaranteed length for accurate calculations.
Consider Cut-off Ends
First and last 50mm of each bar may be unusable (mill ends). Reduce stock length or add to kerf.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate total cutting length?
Add up all part lengths, then add (number of cuts Γ kerf width). The total tells you the minimum stock length needed. The calculator does this automatically.
What is kerf in cutting?
Kerf is the width of material removed by each cut. A 3mm blade kerf means 3mm of material becomes sawdust per cut. Across 20 cuts, that's 60mm wasted.
How many stocks do I need?
Divide total required length (parts + kerf) by stock length, rounding up. The calculator optimizes by fitting multiple parts per stock.
Can I use feet instead of mm?
Yes. Enter all values in the same unit (all mm, all inches, or all feet). The calculator works with any consistent unit.
